Born on January 5, 1950, Rick, the youngest of four children, was raised on his family’s dairy farm in Middletown, MD. After graduating from high school, he continued working on the farm through his young adulthood, eventually building his own home there. Rick was a single father, committed to raising his young son, Matthew, when he and Laurie were married on July 2, 1983.Rick and Laurie were blessed with two children during their marriage: Rachael (living in Maryland and working in Washington, DC) and Carl (a high school student). Rick deeply loved his children and cherished time spent with his family.
Rick was a 21 year veteran employee of the Maryland State Highway Administration where he served as a Facility Maintenance Technician IV/Team Leader. On June 26, 2007, Rick was conducting a fifteen minute mobile work zone operation along the Rt. 340 ramp in Frederick, MD. He was clearing debris along the shoulder when he was struck by a pick up truck traveling 60 mph. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Rick was buried on his family’s farm on July 2, 2007, the day that would have been Rick and Laurie’s 24th wedding anniversary.
